FAIR HORSEMEN MOURN LOSS OF
TERRY SCHOEFFEL, KEN WEAVER
TERRY
SCHOEFFEL, 67
Karl T. (Terry) Schoeffel, the President of the
Pennsylvania Fair Harness Horsemen's Association and a longtime member
of the USTA, passed away at home on December 23, 2010. He was 67.
Terry
was an avid harness racing enthusiast an an owner and active member of
the USTA since 1970. He was also licensed as a trainer/driver for eight
years in the 1970s.
He was a founding member of the PAFHHA,
serving as its president
since its inception three years ago.
A retired Fluid Power Engineer from Herr
Voss Corporation after 35
years in the steel industry, Terry was also a member and former
Secretary of the Hungarian Beneficial Society in Zelienople. Above
all, Terry made his family his priority,
especially his
grandchildren.
The son of the late Stanley and Mary
(Purvis) Schoeffel, he was born
May 4, 1943.
He is survived by his wife Virginia
“Ginny” (Kollek) Schoeffel, whom
he married February 17, 1962; five children, Michael (Cathy) Schoeffel,
Richard (Cheryl) Schoeffel, Stephen “Beaner” (Kathy) Schoeffel, Laura
Oldin (her fiancée, Terry Altmeyer), all of Evans City, and Christopher
Schoeffel of Callery; ten grandchildren, Ashley (Steve) Hughes of
Beaver, Justin & Jessica Schoeffel, Michelle Avallone, Brian Sarver,
Brett and Brooke Schoeffel, Nick and Kaitlyn Johnston, all of Evans
City, and Kylee Schoeffel of Callery; two great-grandchildren, Braden
Sarver and Landon Avallone.
His brother, Dr. Thomas (Debbie)
Schoeffel of Evans City also
survives as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Stephen is an active trainer/driver at
The Meadows, while Ginny and
Kathy are active horse owners. Terry Altmeyer is an active trainer at
The Meadows as well. Chris Schoeffel is a blacksmith at The Meadows.
In addition to his parents, Terry was
preceded in death by his
brother,
Samuel, and his granddaughter, Kirsten.
Friends will be received 2-4 and 7-9 PM
Sunday and 1-4 PM Monday at
Boylan Funeral Home, Inc., of Evans City, 116 E. Main Stree, Evans City.
Funeral services wlll be at 4PM on Monday, December 27 at the funeral
home.
KEN WEAVER, 71
Kenneth M. Weaver, 71, of Home, PA, died Dec. 16, 2010
at the
Armstrong Co. Hospital.
He was
born in 1939 in Smicksburg to Milo and Maxine Cornman Weaver. He was a
veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis, having served in the United States
Army. He received a BS degree from IUP, a master's degree from Duquesne
University and was a graduate of Oklahoma Farriers College.
Ken was
employed as a school teacher for Armstrong Co. Schools for 25 years
before retirement. At the time of his death, he was self-employed as a
Standardbred trainer.
He was a member
of the USTA, Pennsylvania Fair Harness Horsemen, Meadows Standardbred
Owners Association, Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen's Association,
lifetime member of the Armstrong Co. Mounted Posse, co-founder and
lifetime member of the Foothills Horse and Pony Association, and a
former member of the PA Contest Riders Association and the PA Flying
Farmers Association.
He is
survived by his mother, Maxine; companion, Katricia Adams; children,
Robin and Brian (Heidi); grandchildren, Augusta and Rhys;
step-grandchildren, Hannah Farester and Rory Farester-Hohl; brother,
Paul (Carol); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death
by his father and an infant daughter.
Friends will be
received on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 2-5 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 19,
from 2-5 p.m. at the Old Mahoning Baptist Church, 5225 Mahoning Road,
Home, PA 15747. A funeral service will be held at the church on Monday,
Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Micah McMillen officiating. Interment
will be made in the North Point Cemetery.
